Relations with Lesotho

The Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of St. John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta has established diplomatic relations with the Kingdom of Lesotho in 2021. The Ambassador of the Order of Malta to the United Nations in New York, Paul Beresford–Hill, exchanged notes with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Lesotho to the United Nations, Nkopane Monyane, to open diplomatic relations with the African country. Lesotho became the 37th African country with whom the Order of Malta enjoys diplomatic ties.

On 5 October 2024, the first appointed Ambassador of the Order of Malta to the Knigdom of Lesotho, Michael P. Murphy, presented his credentials to His Majesty King Letsie III.

The Embassy exists, like all the diplomatic initiatives of the Order of Malta, to support and extend the humanitarian goals of the Order of Malta and its members. The neutral, impartial, and non-political nature of the Order of Malta permits for humanitarian intervention in a timely and valuable nature as well as for a welcoming presence in the Kingdom.
