The Grand Chancellor of the Sovereign Order of Malta received on 15th October, King Letsie III of Lesotho. Accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations of the Kingdom of Lesotho, Lejone Mpotjoana, King Letsie III was welcomed at the Magistral Palace, seat of the Order’s government, by the Grand Chancellor Riccardo Paternò di Montecupo, the Grand Hospitaller Fra’ Alessandro de Franciscis and the inaugural Ambassador of the Order to Lesotho Michael P. Murphy, KM.
The meeting underlined the importance of strengthening ties after the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2021 in New York, at the Permanent Observer Mission of the Order of Malta to the United Nations.
During the meeting, the Grand Chancellor Riccardo Paternò di Montecupo recalled the recent encounter with King Letsie III on 25th September in New York during the 79th General Assembly of the United Nations.
His Majesty the King thanked for the opportunity to pay a courtesy call to the Grand Chancellor, thus further cementing the already existing relations between the two Sovereign States.
The completion of the accreditation process for Ambassador Michael Murphy will enable the Order of Malta to begin implementing humanitarian projects of cooperation in Lesotho.
